iBall Introduces iBall Slide Tablet PC In India

iBall, a popular and innovative Indian company, is entering into the tablet market with the iBall Slide (doesn’t Apple own the lower case i?). See that cool dude up top? That’s Indian Superstar Hrithik Roshan, an actor who is helping to advertise this new device. Coming in at 13,995 Rupee (aprox. $307) this should be a good budget device for India. The device also has a good number of ports as well though it’s a bit too much device vs. screen for me. I know Roshan in that picture up top has gotten you interested, so hit the break for a full breakdown of specs and screenshots.

Viewsonic ViewPad 7e Up For Pre-Order On Amazon For $199

The budget conscious 7-inch 4:3 ratio ViewPad 7e  has shown up for pre-order over at Amazon for a low $199. This is a Gingerbread tablet with an Arm Cortex-A8 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage expandable to 32GB, 3MP rear and .3MP front cameras, all seen on a 4:3 800×600 7-inch screen. I can’t help but think this looks way too much like a Kindle. If you’re dying for a tablet on a budget, this might be a good option for you. If not, I might hold out just a bit for the more power packing tablets to drop in price a bit more.

Sony Tablet S Available On Home Shopping Network For $599

well this is a first for me to see, an Android device available first on the Home Shopping Network. We gave you the heads up the S was available for pre-order from Sony and that they would be shipping “on or about” September 16th. Well, oddly enough, the 16GB S tablet is shipping right now from HSN and can be yours for $599. This price is $100 more then Sony’s pre-order price, but this may be because they are ready to ship right now and come with some payment options (2 payments of 299.97, 3 payments of 199.98, and 4 payments of $149.98). If you can’t wait, hop on over to HSN from the source link and grab one right now. If you need some financing options and can wait,

Acer Iconia Tab A501 4G Set To Hit AT&T September 18th

AT&T announced today that the Acer Iconia Tab A501 will go on sale nationwide Sept. 18th. This HSPA+ Tegra-2 loaded tablet will be selling for $330 with a new two-year contract, or can be bought as a contract free 16GB version for $480. You should take note though that this isn’t an LTE device, so you’ll have to deal with AT&T’s slower speeds once their HSPA+ network hits your area.Note that the A501 is essentially the A500 without carrier support (WiFi only). The A501 may be hard to swallow since Amazon has the A500 up right now for $363. If needing to be on a carrier network with your tablet is your thing, this could be a great choice. Who’s getting one?

Atrix 4G ROMs Being Ported To The Droid X2

A little over month ago we reported that the Droid X2 was confirmed using the 2nd-init method, the same method that brought CM7 to the Droid X. Unfortunately, there haven’t been many ROMs currently on the X2 to choose from. Things should start to change now as XDA membernavenedrob has stated porting Atrix ROMs over to the DX2. The first one up is stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread 4.5.91 Atrix 4G port and updates along with the download link can be found in the source link below. This should be the first of many to help you un-blur your DX2. Let us know how this ROM works out for you.

Apple Says Motorola Acquisition Changes the Current Patent Suit

Google’s tactical acquisition of Motorola was a disruptive move in the ongoing patent wars and it appears Apple got the memo. In its suit against Motorola, Apple on Friday asked for a hold on two of the patent cases. The reason? Apple says that the acquisition has resulted in a “fundamental loss of Motorola’s patent rights,” thus completely changing the landscape of the patent suit. Basically, Apple is worried that no matter which party wins in the lawsuit, it could easily be overturned by either of the two participants or a third-party based on changes in criteria in the litigation. That being the case, Apple does not want to spend the time, money, and effort for nothing, right?Note that Apple’s lawyers simply seek to capitalize on Google’s and MMI’s own statements, knowing that Google and MMI can’t contradict them. Nowhere do they say that MMI’s patents are strong enough to serve the stated goal of protecting the Android ecosystem: this is just about the official motivation. In connectionwith motions to stay patent cases, the patent-centric rationale provided by the parties for the deal simply comes in handy, regardless of what Apple’s management may truly think of those patents.According to Florian Mueller, a patent blogger for FOSS patents, it goes deeper.
Bascially, what he’s saying is that Apple is not admitting whether or not they think they would win, but are taking the moment to acknowledge Google’s and Motorola’s statements involving their ties to each other, leaving little wiggle room for a cross-argument from Google or Motorola to block the hold on the patent suits.
In fact, a key motivation on Google’s part may have been to acquire MMI before it might, for example, have agreed to pay royalties to Microsoft, considering that MMI is in serious trouble against Microsoft. A formal capitulation by MMI — in the form of taking a royalty-bearing license — would have been a disaster for Android at large, presumably resulting in each and every other Android company also recognizing a need to take such a license. MMI’s patents aren’t as strong as many people believe, but it’s much stronger than most of the other Android device makers, so if even MMI had failed to defend itself, that would have been a very meaningful event.Another interesting paragraph involves Google’s timing in purchasing Motorola.
Motorola has yet to reply to the idea of a hold of the two patent suits in question, but we’ll keep an eye on the proceedings.
